It’s my job to tell the story of your day through my pictures, and I do this by creating timeless, candid and elegant images…

Consult

Before I photograph a wedding, I will always try to meet you face to face or at least talk on the phone so we can chat about the photography and your day.

Shoot

On the day of the wedding I will just photograph everything as it happens and when it happens, quickly and quietly, and not get in the way of the day.

Deliver

I start editing your pictures within a few days of the wedding, and your individually edited pictures will be ready around two weeks after the wedding.

Who do you choose…?

Your wedding pictures are really important because once the day is over and all the cars, cakes and choirs have gone, one of the few tangible things you will have left are your wedding pictures, which are going to keep the memories alive for many years to come.

Your wedding is also unrepeatable, which is why choosing the right photographer is a massive decision. So who do you choose to photograph your wedding..?

Do you choose a friend, a local part-timer or someone who’s just starting out – together with the disappointment or worry that this could bring – or do you choose a full time professional with experience..?

I’ve been a wedding photographer for over 30 years and during this time I’ve photographed hundreds of weddings, and know where to be and what to do at any kind of wedding, so whether you are having a big wedding, a small wedding , an intimate wedding or elopement wedding – I have more than enough experience for any kind of day.

Some help to find the right Wedding Photographer..?

Okay, you’ve got the date, the ring and probably the venue, so now you’re looking for a wedding photographer to capture your day. Finding the perfect wedding photographer is probably one of the hardest decisions you’ll have to make in your wedding planning journey because there’s zillions of photographers to choose from. So where do you start and how do you choose the best photographer for your wedding day…?

1. Word of Mouth
The first place to start looking for your wedding photographer is to ask your recently married friends who they used for their wedding. You can hear the good things about them, the things they didn’t really like and you can hear just what it was like on the day to have them.

But just because a friend may have loved their wedding photographer, doesn’t mean that that photographer is right for you or your wedding. Look at their wedding photos and see if you like them. Ask them if you can see their full gallery or wedding album and decided for yourself if you like the work they did.

Asking recently married friends is a great place to start, but if you didn’t really like what you saw then it’s best to search the traditional way using Google, Bing, wedding blogs, social media, wedding magazines etc – and hopefully, you can find some photographers whose work stands out to you.

2. Wedding Pictures

When visiting photographers websites, have a good look at their pictures and ask yourself a couple of questions:

  • Do you like the pictures..? Do they make you go wow…? And do the images have some impact..?
  • Do the quality of the pictures look professional? Are they too light, too dark, are they crooked or even over-photoshopped? Could you take a better picture on your phone…?
  • Is there variety of pictures in their galleries or pictures stories, showing different locations, different weddings, different people, and pictures shot indoors and outdoors. and more importantly, are there lots of pictures of people instead of shoes, cakes and confetti…?

It is easy for a photographer to show one good picture from a wedding, so don’t just rely upon looking at a photographers instagram page. Look through some of the recent weddings in their blog as they will normally show a good selection of pictures from a wedding. This should give you a better idea about the photographers skill. But more importantly, can you imagine yourselves in these photos?

3. The Photographers Style

A photographer’s style is probably the most important factor when choosing a wedding photographer and the way the photographer works will influence your experience of the day itself. All photographers see things and shoot things differently. Some are alternative and use quirky angles or funky colours to present their pictures, where some are traditional, relying on safe poses and even safer photography for their pictures. Some are completely documentary and will go to great lengths to remain anonymous during a wedding, and some are like me, and use their experience to document the day in their own way.

If you love the look of candid photos then it’s important to choose a photographer that shows a lot of natural moments. And if you prefer the more posed, high-end fashion style then don’t choose a candid photographer, because you will be sorely disappointed. Most of all – choose the photographer who’s style of pictures you like.

4. Meet Your Photographer

After looking at all these photographers, make a list of the ones you like and email them to find out if they’re available and within your budget. Make arangements to meet or speak to the ones you like the best, and when you do talk to them, make sure to ask them lots of questions: are they insured, what would they do if their camera broke, what if they were sick on the day, what if it was raining, what if….? You get the idea. Don’t let it be a one-way conversation so make a list and ask them lots of questions, then once you’ve done that – dont make only promises – go away and have athink about it.

And when you do choose your photographer – trust them before the wedding and during the wedding. Get their advice for timings for the day, as the wedding photographer is the one vendor who’s at the wedding for most of the day.  They see every part of the day and the experienced ones have seen it all.

On the wedding day itself, just let your wedding photographer do their thing. Enjoy yourself and put your trust them. Take their advice on the day for when and where you should do things because they just want to capture the best images possible for you.

5. Trust Your Photographer

When you do choose your photographer – trust them before the wedding and during the wedding. Get their advice for timings for the day and dont be shy to ask them other questions, as the wedding photographer is the one vendor who’s at the wedding for most of the day. They see every part of the day and the experienced photographers have seen it all.

On the wedding day itself, just let your wedding photographer do their thing. Enjoy yourself and put your trust them. Take their advice on the day for when and where you should do things because they just want to capture the best images possible.

Those are five suggestions to help you on your way. As for myself…

I have a lifetime of experience being a wedding photographer and I bring this experience with me to each and every wedding. If experience is what you’re looking for, then maybe you’ve found the right photographer.

Some Questions & Answers

I’m sure you must have a zillion questions about my wedding photography, but there’s only so much space on a web page so I’ve listed the usual questions couples ask me. If you do have any more questions, however big or small, then just email, text or even give me a call.

HOW WILL OUR PICTURES LOOK AND HOW LONG TO SEE THEM..?

Because this is my full-time job, the day after your wedding I transfer all the pictures onto my system to make sure they’re safe and I generally start editing them a few days after your wedding. Once I’ve sorted the pictures I start editing the ‘keepers’ which usuall takes me a day or two. I always edit my pictures so they are clear and colourful. I don’t do ‘dark and dreary’ – but if that’s what you want, then there are lots of other photographers who do that kind of editing – but because I want your pictures to look just as good in 20 years time as they do today I dont dabble i the ‘dark and dreary’ stye of editing.

After the initial edit I put them aside and re-visit them a few days later just to double check my choices and my editing then once I am happy with the pictures I will make a HD slideshow and then get everything ready for delivery. I usually say it will take upto three weeks before I deliver them, but it could be as little as two weeks. It just depends on the time of the year and how may weddings I have open.

HOW WOULD YOU DESRIBE YOUR STYLE

First and foremost – I’m a realist, and unlike some photographers, I don’t use long words to describe what I do as being art. Its not. Its wedding photography so I photograph things in my own way, capturing moments as and when they happen. The only time I get involved with the day is when its time for the family groups and the couple’s portraits – and for the portraits I always photograph in a style which is simple, elegant, quick and without a lot of fussing or faffing about. Just look at the pictures on my website, and you’ll see what I do.

DO WE HAVE TO SMILE..?

Did you know that it takes 26 muscles to smile and 62 to frown…? Its up to you whether you want to smile, but seeing that it takes less effort to smile, then why not – after all – its your wedding day…!

WHICH AREAS DO YOU COVER..?

I concentrate mainly around the central belt of Scotland, including Loch Lomond, Glasgow and Argyll area, but I also photoraph weddings in Ayrshire and in the Highlands. I’m more than happy to go further, but this will cost extra…

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A PHOTOGRAPHER...?

I’ve been a full time photographer for over 30 years and during that time I’ve worked in all kinds of photography, and at one time I even even managed photographers and taught photography. I am still a full-time and self-employed photographer and while most wedding occur at weekends, I still have to fill my days so I also shoot commercial photography. This keeps my busy, as well as helping to keep a roof over my head and keeping the tax-man happy.

ARE YOU INSURED..?

Definitely. I never leave home without it.

DO YOU OFFER ALBUMS...?

Yes. My albums are made right here in Scotland and are of the highest quality. As well as superior materials, I also design each and every album around your day so that  no two albums are the same.

DO WE HAVE TO BUY AN ALBUM..?

No, because I always offer alternatives. You can choose a straight USB package or you can can choose to include, prints, a storybook or an album with your portfolio, or if you want to include something weeks, months or years after your wedding, then I have a special shopping cart on my website where you can buy prints, storybooks or albums.
