A wedding day at Sherbrooke Church and Pollokshields Burgh Hall
Katie and John have known each other for a while. As they work and live in Glasgow, they decided to get married in Glasgow as its where they belong. Katie had rented an apartment in Glasgow for the preparations, so that’s where my day started. Katie had decided on an ivory dress which wasn’t too big and wasn’t too small. With her hair on top and her wonderfully long veil, she looked beautiful.
Katie and John had decided on getting married at Sherbrooke Church, which is a large and fine old church. I have shot weddings there before and I really do know that its a hard place to fill as its so big – but fill the church they did…! The church was jam-packed with families from both sides and with their many, many friends, from Glasgow, England and around the world. It was standing room only at Sherbrooke on this day.
After the ceremony we got some pictures outside the church then it was off to the Pollokshields Burgh Hall for the reception, which spookily enough, is just down the road from Sherbrooke Church. I want to let you into a small secret here…. Pollokshields Burgh Hall is one of Glasgow’s biggest secrets. Many people know its there, but what they don’t realise is what a great place it is for a wedding. Besides there being plenty of space for canapés, there’s also lots of grounds outside for groups and the newlyweds portraits, and the main hall itself is just perfect for the largest of weddings meals and wedding dances. Its superb.
Anyway, once we all got to the Burgh Hall, after canapés we did some family pictures and then some pictures of the newlyweds, including a guest appearance my a small pug with a kilt (Katie & John’s best friend) and hen the meal. After the meal and the speeches the evening started with a ceilidh, with Katie and John leading the way. Another lovely wedding day
